Since it emerged as part of the iconic duo Soapkills that Yasmine Hamdan is considered an icon of underground music. At the time, the band from Beirut was the first group of indie electronic to appear in the Middle East. A pioneer of pop music in the region, Yasmine continued her career and gained visibility as a singer, songwriter and actress. Although with a voice attached to the traditions of Arab music, the structures and arrangements incorporate electronic sounds from pop and contemporary western folk to the music of the Lebanese artist. "Al Jamilat," the last solo album released in 2017, was produced by Yasmine alongside Luke Smith and Leo Abrahams, and features collaborations with Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and Shahzad Ismaily.
