King Krule is the pseudonym of Archy Marshall, a Londoner whose peculiar combination of honest and witty songwriting attracted early comparisons with disparate punk forebears like Joe Strummer and Shane MacGowan. Marshall was only a teenager when he was compared to these and other figures who only reached their peak in their early twenties. It wasn't long before Marshall made his individuality apparent, with elements of no wave, punk jazz, dub and hip-hop gradually marking his sound - which is further distinguished by his irregular rhythm guitar style - and giving color to his poetic narratives.
