GEORDIE GREEP
GEORDIE GREEP
2025

Born in Walthamstow (London), Geordie Greep is known for his unique voice, partly due to his accent, which has been described as “geographically unclassifiable”, while his songs often feature dramatic narratives, many of which focus on specific characters. A founding member of the band Black Midi, he recently began his solo career with the release of the album The New Sound (2024), a project that is often compared to Anthony Powell's novel “Dance to the Music of Time” for its approach to characters obsessed with power and those more focused on the sensory pleasures of life.

The album is described as an alternative pop experience that mixes humor and depth, where the characters get into absurd situations. The sound is described as fluid, propulsive but also rigid, reflecting themes of despair and self-sabotage, including jazz-funk, salsa and a mix of indie and big band Latin influences, with a sense of improvisation and breaking patterns. It's as much a listening experience as it is a journey of narrative and emotion while remaining challenging, delivering no easy answers and inviting the listener to question the intentions behind each song. Greep reflects on the creative freedom of the record, looking for something unpredictable and unique and suggesting that a live version could explore this creative freedom even further.
