The talent for composition that lead singer and guitarist Adrianne Lenker has is central to Big Thief's vulnerable indie rock. "Masterpiece," the debut album, arrived in 2016, the year it also saw them making appearances in the South by Southwest and being a multi-touring support band. The second work, "Capacity," was included on several lists of best albums of the year and is a set of intense and ambiguous stories that both explore sorrow and joy; themes of surrender and violence, but also of comfort; dangers and rewards of delivery and human relations. Big Thief created a niche that is theirs, defined by the duality of the moments that mark life, in a kind of surrender to the beauty that can be found in chaos.
